Numbers less than a million are numerals, rather than nouns:
| nul | zero |
|---|---|
| unu | one |
| du | two |
| tri | three |
| kvar | four |
| kvin | five |
| ses | six |
| sep | seven |
| ok | eight |
| naŭ | nine |
| dek | ten |
| cent | hundred |
| mil | thousand |
For multiples of ten and hundred, prefix dek and cent, one of the digits du through naŭ; for multiples of a thousand, place a number du through naŭcent naŭdek naŭ before the word mil:
| tridek | thirty |
|---|---|
| kvarcent | four hundred |
| sep mil | seven thousand |
| kvindek mil | fifty thousand |
| tricent mil | three hundred thousand |
| tricent kvindek sep mil | three hundred fifty-seven thousand |
| tricent kvindek sep mil, kvarcent tridek kvin | three hundred fifty-seven thousand, four hundred thirty-five |
Numbers which are whole multiples of a million are nouns, not numerals, and use the preposition da before the noun. The number can be in the accusative case, but the noun will be in the nominative: «Mi havas milionon da dolaroj» = “I have a million dollars”.
Numbers over a million, but not whole multiples of a million, are a noun-and-numberal combination that behaves like a numeral. It does not take the accusative ending, but the noun that is counted may: «Mi havas miliono, ducent mil dolarojn» = “I have one million, two hundred thousand dollars”.
Numerals can be expressed as nouns, and take the preposition da:
| oko da kantistoj | an octet of singers |
|---|---|
| dekduo da bovoj | a dozen head of cattle |
| dudeko da gaŭĉoj | a score of cowboys |
| kvindeko da jaroj | a half-century |
Writing numbers and naming humongous numbers are discussed in the Punctuation section.
