plaĉ/i (vt) to please
Note:  Esperanto uses the verb plaĉi where English uses the verb “to like”, but with the subject and verb reversed.  In this case, the Esperanto verb behaves like the equivalent word in German or Spanish, rather than like the English equivalent:
Tio ĉi libro plaĉas min.  (German) Dieses Buch gefällt mir.  (Spanish) Este libro me gusta.  (English) This book pleases me.

Reversing the order of the subject and object keeps the meaning the same, and might be translated with a different word-order in German and Spanish, but with a different verb in English:
Min plaĉas tiu ĉi libro.  (German) Mir gefällt dieses Buch.  (Spanish) Me gusta este libro.  (English) I like this book.
