Fuzzball and the Stinkbugs

Sam in the pantry, taken 29 Apr 06 Here is Samantha, who also answers to “Sam”, “Sammie”, or “Fuzzball”, inspecting the pantry, as her predecessor, Mindy, used to do. So far, Fuzzball hasn’t pulled Mindy’s trick of spending the entire day in the pantry while I was at work.

For a while, we had Tippie to try to take Mindy’s place, but she acted afraid of Pattie’s bed, and stayed in the bathroom all the time, so she went back to the Humane Society. I think she’d do fine living with a single person, and no other animals.

Tippie

Sam on the computer, taken 5 May 06 Sam likes to sit on my computer monitor to keep an eye on me.

It’s taken her quite a while to become socialized, and at first disliked being on Pattie’s bed, as Tippie did. Lately, though, she’s been sleeping on the bed, near Pattie’s feet.

Her favorite hobby is standing between people’s feet in the kitchen.

Sam was a fairly small cat when we got her at an age of about two years, but she just about doubled in size in about a month. I guess she’s a healty eater.

Because of her habit of parking in the middle of the hallway, Mel has nicknamed her Speedbump. Sometimes, I call her that, too.

Tété and Ray, taken 18 May 06 These are the two new kitties in the family, born 17 March 2006. In the foreground, we have Mel’s kitty, whom he named Paco, and Mel’s Mother’s Day (2006) present to Pattie, whom she named Gidget, in the background.

Since then, we’ve discovered that Paco is a girl, now named Tété after one of Mel’s girlfriends, and that Gidget is a boy, now named Ray, from Mel’s middle name. I refer to them collectively as the “Stinkbugs”.

The way I figure it, Tété is Mel’s daughter, Mel is Pattie’s son, and Ray is Pattie’s son, so that makes Ray Mel’s brother and Tété’s uncle.

Kitties in our family are required to be weird. These two like to clean out Pattie’s oatmeal bowl when she’s done with it, so they fit right in. They like baked beans, too.

Here’s a short movie (MPEG format: 28.1Mb — 00:02:21) of Ray in a violent fight with a kitty treat, with Tété refereeing.

Now kitties, being kitties, don’t remain kitties forever.  Ray and Tété have grown up now, and Tété, being Mel’s cat, has gone with him to his new home.  To the right is a picture he took of her at the age of about one year.  She’s still a lot smaller than Ray.

And speaking of Ray, he’s full-grown at the age of one year.  Below is a picture of him with the squirt bottle that Pattie used to use to keep Tété away from her feet, but Ray runs toward the bottle when we shake it or squirt him with it, because he wants a drink.  He also likes to drink out of the faucet in the bathroom sink.
