Aminda Kateto MacGregor
on the day we brought her home from the Humane Society. She
appeared to have been catching a cold the day she was spayed there,
and wasn’t recovering very quickly, so she had to stay at the
HS for a while to get well. Finally, she got to come home
with us, and purred whenever we picked her up, even though she still
wasn’t feeling too well yet. She’s about eighteen
months old in this picture. Her everyday name here is
Mindy, and her fancy name means “a loveable
kitty”.
We had been to Petsmart a few days earlier to pick out a kitten, because we had just lost Pattie’s long-time companion pooch, Princess. The kittens in the adoption center there had all been spoken for, but the lady said that there would be some more pets coming from the Humane Society in a few minutes, so we waited for them.
When they brought in the new animals, there was a dear little kitty in one of the carriers, and when Pattie stuck her finger through the bars in the door, the kitty rubbed up against it. When they let her out of the carrier and Pattie picked her up, she started purring right away. I think she really wanted to go home with us.
So we adopted her, even though she wasn’t a kitten any more, but as adult cats go, she is a bit on the small side.
Mindy takes care of Pattie while I’m away at work, checking
in on her from time to time to see that she’s okay, and begging
for a treat. If Pattie is at the computer, Mindy will just tap her on
the arm to let her know that she wants to be picked up for a minute
to get some attention.
In early March of 2006, Mindy appears to have found an open door, which she was usually deathly afraid of. We always said that she took her job title seriously: “indoor cat”. But this time she decided to go out the door and go on an adventure, from which she did not return. This is one little kitty who will be greatly missed. We’re lucky to have had her with us for six years.
